The Zeppelin Z.I was the first Zeppelin bought by the German army from the Zeppelin firm. The factory identification of this construction was L.Z.3 where L.Z. meant Luftschiff Zeppelin.
An overland flight with this Zeppelin was planned from Friedrichshafen to München and back in one day on 1 April 1909. Due to heavy side wing the Z.I drifted to the east and blown away only able to land far away from München. As next day the wind had calmed down, the Z.I flew back to München and landed at Oberwiesenfield (a military training station). After about 30 minutes on the ground the Z.I. flew back to Friedrichshafen.
The crowd attending at München was massive and lots of professional photographers were present, so many photographs were shot.
